Ride the Bull

I have been noticing a theme lately with my small business clients.  They have this belief if only someone else could handle my sales.  If someone else could make the tough calls.  If someone else could______________.  Fill in the Blank.

I am going to let you in on a little secret.  Nobody gives a shit about your business like you do and they will never be as effective as you.  These items you are avoiding are like a raging bull.

It’s your choice, you can avoid “The Bull” but you can only hide from it for so long.  In fact you might even say its safer on “The Bull.”  At least your behind its horns.

I don’t want you to get too caught up in the analogy but to consider the idea that as a small business owner you can cover your eyes and wish someone else will handle your problems but in most cases your just dreaming.

In the face of fear we often want to retreat but I propose you “Ride The Bull” or better yet “Ride Your Bull.”

Take charge of your business, own your business and make it happen.

I agree. And I like the analogy. I call it, declaring yourself to BE THE ONE. Be the one to take the bull by the horns, to figure out what needs to be figured out or pull in a resource, then do the doing. Yes, I have heard business owners talk about “getting a sales person” like there is a magic sales personality or skill that can sell anything to anyone at any price. Much of sales is tuning in to what your clients really want and need and what they are willing to pay for it. Then provide THAT. Not just sell what you have to sell. A great sales person will do that for you. And you have to pay them well, because a great sales person ususally wants their own bull.
