LinkedIn is for Closers

Alec Baldwin said it best with his famous line from the film Glengarry, Glen Ross, “Coffee is for Closers.”

MySpace & Facebook are for the kids, Linkedin is for Professionals, “The Closers.”  Before you do anything else online you must take a look at your LinkedIn profile.  Oh you don’t have a LinkedIn profile.  Then you’re fired.

LinkedIn now has over 24 million registered users.  These are professional users.  Not a bunch 20 something kids living at home extending their youth with a subsidized broadband connection.  24 Million professional users who can make or break your career.

Recently LinkedIn was valued at 1 Billion Dollars and you don’t even have a profile or have taken no steps to optimize it.

Well you are in luck.  Just like the movie Glengarry Glen Ross, the company has provided leads.  If you are a “Closer” you can have the leads, if not then you will just have to stick with MySpace.

    LinkedIn is for sad power-exec wannabes like yourself who have to whore out their profile and try and claim it is for “closers”. The people making the real money aren’t begging for friends on a website they write to try and make themselves look good.

    Great entry and assignment, Brian. LinkedIn is definitely for the big kids who want to get down to the nitty-gritty instead of just wasting time on more “social” sites.

    I’ve had a lot of success using LinkedIn for marketing purposes to get the word out about Salesconx. We’re an online marketplace for business referrals that’s very similar to LinkedIn, but with a touch of Ebay since users bid for contacts to grow their network. I started using LinkedIn seriously about 3 months ago and have seen a significant boost in traffic on our site just by providing links to the page and by answering relevant questions in the “Answers” section. It’s really quite remarkable how social media/networking is exploding!

    I will add you on LinkedIn right now, so be on the lookout for my request.
